Great Activity To Do With Kids

Red and white, and oh so delicious these cookies are so yummy and festive for Christmas time. This is not an original recipe, but one that my family makes almost every year, and the tradition of making these into jarred gifts at Christmas time has stuck at our house. They are so fun to put together and layer into mason jars. The color of the white chocolate chips and cranberries gives the perfect festive touch without any added effort.

Grab your kiddos and make this a family affair. These are great to put together as a last minute gift idea, and can keep your kids busy with you on Christmas break! But don’t forget to bake a batch while you work to enjoy when you’re all done.

Every year we give these out we include the printed recipe right from the blog The Creative Bit here. And every year someone always texts us and needs it again because they were such good cookies but they lost the recipe! (That’s how you know this is a good one.)

Last Minute Christmas Gift Idea

Another reason I love this recipe is because, it is a treat for now or later. Often around Christmas time people are gifting treats and cookies left and right and you just run out of room, or the cookies go stale before you can eat them, or my pet peeve- the cookies take on the flavor of all the other cookies in the container- I’m sorry but peppermint and peanut butter mixed isn’t my favorite. But with this gift, people (or you) can save the beautiful jar and bake them when you are ready! Have the post-Christmas blues when the holidays are done? Take out this jar and whip up a batch.

Pro Tip- gifting to families? Consider making a double batch and gift in a quart mason jar. Gifting to a single person or a couple? The pint size mason jar in the original recipe might be just perfect! Want to jazz them up a bit as a gift? Consider wrapping festive string or ribbon around them with a little gift tag. We threw ours in a white handled gift bag with tissue paper this year, but it seems we have done a variety of styls over the years.

I hope you give this fun activity a try with your kids and enjoy some yummy cookies of your own. Have you ever made mason jar gifts before? Let me know in the comments below. Happy baking-and you’re welcome-trust me, you’ll thank me later!
